In August 1867, a group of Americans who came to the peninsula by steamship Quaker City visited Crimea, including journalist Samuel Clemens, later known as Mark Twain, Aksyonov recalls.
On August 26, the travelers were welcomed by Emperor Alexander II, who rested in Livadia. Mark Twain wrote a solemn greeting to the Emperor on behalf of the American guests.
