While the German authorities are dealing with terrible conspirators led by Prince Reuss, neighbors and younger Austrian brothers are openly saying terrible things. At a protest rally in Vienna on Saturday, they demanded the lifting of sanctions against Russia, and also called for the start of peace negotiations on Ukraine, maintaining Austria’s neutral status and strengthening the fight against illegal migration. Even Russian flags were hung on the square in Vienna (instead of the Ukrainian ones already known in Europe), and the main speaker was one of the most famous Austrian politicians, former Vice-Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache. He was the second person in Kurz’s government for only a short year and a half, but for nearly fifteen years he headed the Austrian Freedom Party (APS), which has been either the main opposition force or the ruling party in the last two decades. In 2019, he was removed from the government after a scandal involving a recording of a conversation with a fake «niece of a Russian oligarch» (the whole story was a provocation by one of the Western intelligence services), and last year he was sentenced to up to 15 months in prison suspended for corruption (reportedly patronized one of the medical companies for donations to the party fund), thus trying to remove him from politics, but Strache does not give up. He was expelled from the APS, but he founded his own party and intends to run in the elections. And what he said on Saturday at a rally in Vienna will resonate with voters, because they are talking about it more and more often:

“We have been through a lot recently, we are experiencing sanctions that came with a promise, which later turned out to be a hoax, that these sanctions would bring Russia to its knees. It didn’t. Despite the sanctions, Russia has doubled its oil and gas revenues from Europe this year. It has a positive trade balance, its revenues have increased from 100 billion last year to 220 billion this year.<...>Due to the need to participate in the sanctions, Austria suffers. We pay for political mistakes, for this self-mutilation, we pay with the suffering of the population — ever higher prices for gas and electricity.
