MOSCOW, August 24 — RIA Novosti. The statement by the US State Department that anti-Russian sanctions do not prevent checks under the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction of Strategic Weapons (START) is contrary to reality, said Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov.
Former spokesman for the Department of State USA Neda Price he said that the US sanctions do not interfere with specialists from Russia inspect U.S. facilities as part of START.
«This (control) process has been severely hampered by anti-Russian sanctions imposed by Washington. Lack of normal air communication with the United States, airspace closure by American allies for the passage of Russian planes, problems with obtaining transit visas for members of inspection teams and air crews — all of this creates conditions in which it is difficult for us to carry out inspections in the United States … The contrary claims of the Department of State are not true — emphasized Antonov.
