WASHINGTON, December 9 — RIA Novosti. The United States will send Ukraine HIMARS munitions, NATO 155mm missiles and UAV systems as part of a new aid package, the Pentagon said in a statement.
“This security assistance package will provide Ukraine with new opportunities to bolster its air defences… Capabilities under this package include: additional ammunition for highly mobile artillery missile systems (HIMARS); 80,000 155mm artillery shells; equipment to combat unmanned aerial vehicles,» the statement reads.
The HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) multiple launch rocket system was developed in the USA by companies BAE systems and Lockheed Martin in the years 1996-2000, produced since 2003. Created on the basis of the U.S. Army’s three-axle FMTV wheeled chassis, it can carry six missiles or one ATACMS operational-tactical ballistic missile, the effective firing range for some types of ammunition is up to 80 kilometers.
